The Charles River Center (formerly Charles River Arc) is a private, nonprofit human service agency in Needham, Massachusetts, providing employment and job training, residential homes, therapeutic day programs, and recreational programs for children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Founded by a group of parents of children with special needs in 1956, the mission of Charles River has always been to improve the quality of life by helping each individual with a developmental disability achieve his or her highest possible level of independence so that he or she can fully participate, benefit, and become a contributing member of the community.

We currently work in 22 countries around the world, and serve more than 300,000 children, youth and aging persons with the generous support of more than 250,000 sponsors.

What differentiates CFCA‘s Hope for a Family sponsorship program from other sponsorship organizations is that we work with each child in the context of the whole family, recognizing that the child’s well-being depends, in large part, on the family’s well-being. We recognize that what impacts the family, particularly the mother, affects the child.

Founded in 1915, the Boston Foundation, Greater Boston’s community foundation, is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the nation. The Foundation and its donors make more than $80 million in grants every year.

Our donors meet their own philanthropic goals, while adding to the Foundation’s overall strength. The Foundation also plays a major civic leadership role for our region through publishing fresh research, convening people to discuss our region’s challenges and creating powerful agendas for change.
